Ready for some predictions on security threats in 2012?  Here are a few from the list of top threats coming our way this year, according to Trend Micro:

1) The consumerization of IT - more and more devices in the workplace are customer owned.  The likelihood of data loss increases with every device that comes onto the network that is improperly secured.

2) Increasing complexities of securing physical, virtual and cloud-based systems.  Virtual and cloud platforms are easy to attack but difficult to protect.  (Psst... we know a good cloud provider if you're looking for one...)

3) Heightened attacks on smartphones and tablets, especially Android.  Mobile platforms have become a favorite target of late.

4) More hacker groups will pose a bigger threat to organizations that protect highly sensitive data.  Groups like Anyonymous and LulzSec intentionally attack companies, not consumers, going after vital corporate information.

5) As social engineering becomes mainstream, SMBs will become easy targets.  Small-to-Medium Businesses are going to be a bigger target in 2012 as it is becoming easier and easier to socially network into those companies, gaining access to their online banking accounts.
